What's New HISTORY
February 16th, 2006
31 Days from my next event. Am I ready? Nope. The last 3-4 months have
been quite a challenge. From a fractured foot, extreme gout episodes, knee
surgery and pretty much crappy overall health I am for sure not prepared
for the USAPL PA States. I have finally been able to get my gout under
control and been able to keep myself in good enough shape to lay down solid
training the last 4 weeks, with 4 weeks to go.
A little more on gout, I inherited this from Grand Parents. It appears
I got exactly the gout conditions from my one grandfather in particular.
Turkey, yes TURKEY cripples me. I hadn't realized it was the problem until
I had two holidays, where turkey was served and shortly after I was unable
to walk for approximately a week, following one day of turkey. Now a lot
of things can bother if the uric acid levels are high, but Turkey seems
to put me over the edge.
The good news this off season, has been the lack of any major problems
via the knee surgery. My knee was bothering me since January 2005. They
found some normal wear, as in normal person, not a powerlifter. So I was
very, very happy with that outcome. The pain that I was getting, is now
gone. I am still in semi-rehab, because of the lack of rehab caused by
gout.
The overall goal of this March 19th event, is to knock the rust off and
get myself for what I consider, the contest for the year, that being the
USAPL Men's Nationals in Miami this July. The next few weeks will see if
I have caught up, so far i seem to be behind my best lifts.
FYI... I plan to compete as an In State lifter, since I now live in Pennsylvania.

Back to the gym!
Off season is over, I have had some bad health conditions! I had scope
surgery two weeks ago, a week before that I was diagnosed with gout in
my ankle, a week prior to that it was found that I had a broken foot, opposite
my gout leg. So to say my training is down, is a huge understatement. In
a few weeks I am moving back home to Pennsylvania. I will be training at
Brown's Gym in Clarks Summit. The next few weeks I will be trying to whip
myself back to a less embarrassing state. I need to get back to the gym,
without causing more injuries.
I have my work cut out for me. John Brown graduate from LA Tech has become
the new guy on the block with a 2050 total at 242 in the Juniors. The bar
keeps raising and I plan to keep up. Tony Harris with a 2100, Ryan Goldin,
Jeff Douglas, Nick Tylucki and many more guys just keeping picking it up
a notch.
Next up: Pennsylvania State Championships in March. I will participate
in the Out of State Division at this contest, since my New York membership
doesn't run out until May.

Based on recent results I have slipped to 15th in the World Rankings(Weights in KGs). I am hoping to hit one more IPF approved contest in 2005, the USAPL American
Open in Philadelphia, PA this December. I am planning to lift as a guest
lifter, but there is a lot of family related things going on that might
prevent me from competing or competing at my highest level. But let me
tell you, the temporary setback in late 2005, will likely mean a huge 2006
and 2007. More on that soon!

2001 Total puts Mann in Top 10 World Wide
Over the weekend, the European Powerlifting Federation had their Championships, where the top European Powerlifters lifted in
their hopes to qualify for IPF Men's Worlds. Based on the results between
the US Powerlifting Championships and the European Powerlifting championships,
Steve's total ranks him 10th in the world at his weight class. Steve's
working on the direction of the Hudson River Strongman this August the 20th, in New York. The next competition Steve is looking
at lifting at is the 2005 USAPL American Open.
Mann of Steel Passes on IPF North American Championships
Steve was formerly invited this week to compete at the IPF North American
Championships in Miami, Florida.. Based on current family obligations,
he is not able to attend the event in Florida. This Championship is an
International Powerlifting Federation event, where Team USA, Canada, Mexico

2001 Total at 242!!!
I placed 3rd overall at the 2005 Men's National Championships with a 2001
Total!! This competition I had the most steady performance I have ever
had. I didn't have one lift that exceeded my previous PR, but I lifted
steady and near or even with my best in all three, which worked out to
a 49 LB Total Record! I did attempt a American/National Championship 578
LB Bench Press, but locked it uneven, so it did not count. I had plenty
of power, but the uneven extension not only took me out of the American
record, it also cost me what would have been a chance to place 2nd overall.
Although this was a setback, the day in Killeen, Texas was one of my best.
Thanks to my wife Jenny for standing by me in my training and putting up
with me.
FYI... I was also drug tested following this competition.

Now I am seeded 7th in the National Championship Nominations!
Last year I placed 3rd place with the total listed in the nominations.
The boyz at 242 have really stepped it up a notch in the last 12 months.
Nominations are good and for me a great motivator, luckily I think I am
in pretty good shape, so we'll see how things pan out. The top 3-4 nominations
would have won most of the last five National Championships!
